Hexagram 55 · Feng · Abundance

Peak

Maximum, and briefly.

The situation

This is the high point — full, bright, and structurally temporary. Decisions made now carry weight.

What it asks of you

Decide while the light is good, and don't mistake the peak for a plateau.

Where it leads

How it looks from the other side
Transition
Passing through, not settled.

Dispersal
Things scattering apart.
What sits underneath it

The structure is bending.

The six lines

  1. initial Meeting the one who matches you. Ten days of it and nothing goes wrong. Go, and there is regard.
  2. second The screen is so thick that at noon you can see the Dipper. Go now and you will be suspected. Sincerity that opens out — this goes well.
  3. third The curtain so heavy that at noon you can see the small stars. The right arm broken. Nothing goes wrong.
  4. fourth The screen so thick that at noon you can see the Dipper. Meeting the one who is your equal.
  5. fifth What is fine in it comes out into the open. Congratulation and praise.
  6. top A grand house with the family screened away inside. Look through the door: silence, nobody there. Three years and no one sees them.

The line texts are the oldest layer of the book. They are pictures, not instructions, and they are meant to be held against your own situation rather than decoded.

How this one is built

Written out as six lines, bottom to top, this pattern is 001101 — a solid line is 1, a broken line is 0. Every relationship above is arithmetic on those six digits, not interpretation: reverse the order and you get the other side, flip every digit and you get the opposite reading, take the middle four and you get what sits underneath. Anyone can check the result, which is what separates a structure from a fortune.

The sequence is built the same way. The sixty-four are arranged in thirty-two pairs, and turned upside down it becomes Transition. The rule holds for all thirty-two pairs without exception — twenty-eight joined by reversal, four by inversion.

In the received order it sits between Misalignment and Transition. The order is not alphabetical or random: the old commentary reads it as a chain, one situation giving rise to the next.
